A Few of my Favourite Things
Posted on March 02 2016
As winter begins to wind down (I hope. I know it was mild but still…) I’ve begun to take inventory of my top baby gear picks as of late. My daughter, who I swear was JUST a newborn, is quickly approaching her first birthday and as a baby accouterment junkie, I’ve had a lot of time to try things out and find a few (read: many) favourites. There are lots of reasons that I consider working in the shop a dream come true and one of them is getting to access all the coolest stuff for my girl. So whether you’re stocking up for a new arrival or consider yourself a seasoned pro, have a look at my list of must-haves and let me know what you think.
Yours in baby stuff bliss,
Guys, this cup is a game changer. We started our daughter on water at six months and she took to the ZoLi immediately. It’s easy for her to grasp, doesn’t require any tilting, and she never seemed to have an issue with figuring out how to use the straw. Speaking of the straw, not only is it weighted, it’s also replaceable which I think will be clutch when she has more teeth.
I cannot say enough good things about this fabulous hood. Made of super soft reclaimed wool and lined with adorable organic cotton jersey, the hood keeps baby’s head and neck warm AND can’t be yanked off. It’s perfect for the car seat, stroller, and carrier as it offers fantastic coverage without bulk, and it doesn’t seem to bother my daughter who takes great pleasure in removing any and every hat we try to put on her.
Not sure about you but our family was just annihilated by colds this winter. It’s been like a non-stop cycle of sick. It’s gross and exhausting and I hate it. Because I’m really not keen on giving medication to my kid unless absolutely necessary, we’ve been relying heavily on humidifiers and this little gem of a product like crazy. Rub a little of this gentle balm on baby’s chest and let the slippery elm, ginger root, rosemary and balsam fir work their magic.
Packaged in an adorable egg carton, made of sustainable wood, painted with non-toxic water based stains, and really gorgeous to look at, these sweet little spheres are a guaranteed playroom hit. R is constantly reaching for her set when we’re playing and we love giving them as gifts because they’re so darn lovely. They’re great for a wide range of ages and foster imaginative play. Yay!
I bought a Sakura Bloom on the advice of two of my friends who have a few months of parenting experience on me. Both swore that it was indispensible and they were right. I’ve been using my sling since day one (literally) and now, 11 months later, it’s still an all-time favourite. It’s easy to tuck into a diaper bag or stroller basket and can be thrown on in seconds. It’s perfect for skin-to-skin time, getting things done around the house, or as a way of having baby up close to the action. Even with R weighing over 20 lbs, I still find it extraordinarily comfortable and she adores snuggling up in it. The more you wash and wear it, the softer it gets and it comes in a ton of gorgeous colours. Right now, I’ve got my eye on the blackout linen. A murdered out sling? YES PLEASE!
