Real Moms and Mother's Day
Posted on May 07 2015
Our third Mom is really an amazing woman. Please meet the awe inspiring Allison Macrae. A high school math teacher, who focuses on the middle years (grades 7-10). She is currently on an extended third (and last!) maternity leave, so she could remain inside that "bubble" for as long as possible.
Allison is a very busy mom, who is very active in the community, working with charitable organizations any way she can. One charity she proudly supports is the diaper bank. "I think this mothering gig is hard and I am surrounded by love and encouragement. I have an army of mothers I can call upon at any moment to help me through each and every day. I can only imagine what it would be like to not have something as simple and as necessary as a fresh diaper, to put on that chubby little tush that you are chasing around the house. The diaper bank takes opened boxes, full boxes and cash donations as a way of supporting parents that don't have the means to buy their littles ones diapers."
She has also been selling the "SLOW DOWN - Kids at Play" signs in the Roncesvalles area. "There are too many cars and too many precious little faces zooming around this neighbourhood on their scooters. If anyone wants to get a sign, in order to help slow down these cars and keep our kids safe, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
I asked Allison what she wanted for Mother's Day, and this was her response:
"Gah! What a tricky question, as I honestly feel so so blessed with what I have already. Can you freeze time for me? I want time to slow down. I want to bottle up the smell of these kids and the funny things that they say. AND...I don't want to make 1 single decision the whole entire day on Mother's Day. HA! Don't get me wrong - I know I am blessed because I have choices and get to make decisions, but just for one day - I don't want to decide anything. It is exhausting!
On a more practical side, I can't wait to see the entry that the kids (and Nick) will put into the "Mother's Memories" book pictured above that my husband created for me last year."
Happy Mother's Day Allison. You are really helping others in wonderful ways, and the community is so thankful for all you do.
