On Raising Kids
Posted on February 16 2015
"Say please and thank you; Say excuse me; Please wash your hands; Honey please don't throw your cup."
These are just a few of the comments I find myself saying over and over again these days, praying that my son and daughter are listening, and picking up on the subtle life lessons my husband and I are teaching them.
I remember before I had kids, how idealistic and blind I was to the reality of what it really meant to raise little beings. It takes patience, grace, and literally your "blood, sweat and tears". I have shed all three on many occasions.
I'm learning that with each stage, a new set of guidelines or life lessons needs to be created. It's crucial that when these new stages approach, both parents agree on these new guidelines quickly. Then, both on the same page teach and support your children through these lessons.
Its been 3 wonderful years and although I know we're only in the beginning, I'm looking forward to what comes next. I see our children growing up with lots of love and encouragement. I see the happiness in their faces, and the love they have for each other, and I'm ready.
Happy Family Day.
